we kissed beneath the
arch of who we thought
we were
just two kids
plain as notebook paper
line upon line
our stories told
as our shadows
settled under us

Sure, a picture is worth a thousand words, but can you spare a few and link up some of yours?
Love the last four lines jerry. Great take in the photo prompt x
ReplyDeleteOh yes, the arch of who we are and those shadows that settle where we made them, and thanks to grace, don't follow us. Amen on that.
ReplyDeleteGreat prompt, why does gravity have to affect our Arch of summers past?
ReplyDelete"plain as notebook paper
ReplyDeleteline upon line
our stories told..."
this swept me off my feet jerry...
My first thought when I saw the photo was of the St. Louis Arch.
ReplyDeleteYou caught the young love of this photo, and caught it well indeed. Excellent, Jerry.
Excellent poem, Jerry. Shadows being cast, line upon line, as the story of their lives had been written. Also really like the part Claudia just quoted; adding that my favorite part occurs at the end just after. "As our shadows / settled under us" Great finishing lines.
ReplyDeleteVivid piece of great clarity.
ReplyDeleteI love the lines Claudia mentioned.
I love the "shadows/settled under us" - perfect words for a really neat image.
ReplyDeleteThis is so layered. From "plain as notebook paper" to the shadows...
ReplyDeleteNice take, strong sense of youthful realism. Love the same lines as Claudia!
ReplyDeletenice...your oppening lines set us up...i like the paper metaphor as well...
ReplyDeletePlain as note book...one can read so much into that
ReplyDeleteAs the rest have noted, that comparison sets up a clean, thoughtful reflection on the simplicity of love. A very young poem, and excellent writing.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this! ♥
